What is baking soda exactly, and why it's so good for you.
Baking Soda, it's not just used for baking. However, most people don't realize the amazing health benefits and uses of baking soda that exist. Not only is is a leavening agent for baked goods, it is good for your body, and great as a cleaning agent.
NaHCO3, also known as sodium bicarbonate or baking soda, is a chemical salt that occurs in its natural form as the mineral nahcolite. NaHCO3 is an amphoteric compound, which means it can react as an acid as well as a base, however in a water solution it is slightly alkaline. That alkaline part is what makes it so great for the body. You want your body to be slightly alkaline as well to maintain optimum health, therefore drinking water with a little bit of baking soda in it can help the body maintain that balance and become slightly alkaline which is right where you want it to be. Drinking water with a little bit of baking soda has been used to aid in the healing of yeast infections and scabies, as well as other ailments. It can also aid in the detoxification of the body because having a body that is slightly alkaline helps eliminate toxins.
In water baking soda is also used as a mild antacid because of its ability to neutralize acids. It is also completely natural making it economical and earth friendly. Inside and out. Not only is it good for your body internally, it is also has a great use as a cleanser for your home in multiple ways. You can use it to clean counter tops, floors, bathrooms, toilets, add it to laundry, and more.
For myself I use it in an all purpose cleaner with one part water, one part white vinegar, about a teaspoon of baking soda, and some essential oils. Some of my favorite essential oils for cleaning are lemon, thyme, oregano, and peppermint. Using all four makes for a great scent and antibacterial blend.
To use internally all you need is to add about a teaspoon of baking soda to at least 24 oz. of water, stir, and drink through out the day, only one or two doses like this is needed, you don't want to do any more than that in one day or you could get out of balance and become too alkaline. Just like you don't want your internal system to be too acidic, you also don't want to be too alkaline either, you want to have a balance between the two for the best health benefits.
Have you tried baking soda in these ways yet? What have your experiences been?
